The 1st Draft - Halfway There

Well, not quite. Today is June 15th, the halfway point between when I set the deadline for my first draft and when it’s actually due (August 1st). I should have at least 60 of the 120 pages done. I don’t. Not quite. But i’m not discouraged, as I’ve been solving plotting issues left and right and managed to bang out 12 decent pages over the weekend (no small feat with two small children to take care of and important video games to be played). I’m confident I’ll still have my 1st draft, in all it’s cobbled-together glory, done by August 1st.

That's no stock photo - that pic is REAL. That's right, I am hardcore old-school! Now where's my abacus...

Project Echo is, I believe, coming together nicely. At least it is in my head, the only place it currently resides. Once I let it out into the bright, garish light of the real world, however, it might not be quite as amazing as I hope it is.

Are you really using a quill pen? :) Some people really do, so I’m just wondering.

I don’t comment on these things ever by the way, but this is the coolest one I’ve seen, no joke. I am teaching reading and writing in workshops (to sixth grade gifted kids), and writing is a big deal in what I do now. Its always fun to say, “I have a friend who (Fill in the Blank), and they write all of the time. This is how they write, so whats your style?”

If only was using an actual quill pen. Sadly, I am not that cool.

That’s awesome that you’re teaching writing to advanced 6th graders, I know you’ve always loved working with kids.

I can only think of the nightmares that would ensue if I was the one teaching them…. :)

having big dreams and working hard towards it is so so important to stay young at heart. (something i see in my parents a lot.)

anyways, i thought id say a word, im an illustrator, and i studied in animation a couple years ago. i did storyboards before, let me know if you ever need help on that side. even though you probably have loads of contacts, working in the movie business already.

Paule! Thanks so much for dropping by and commenting!

The illustrations and designs at your website are gorgeous. I do have a bunch of contacts, but not storyboard ones. I hope you’re halfway serious about wanting to help, ’cause when I hit that stage in the process I’m probably gonna come knocking at your door.

You should write a poem about Google Reader, and work it into your script.
